Taking the First Step of Faith

Taking the First Step of Faith

Somebody has to do it, why not you? It seems like we always wait around for someone else to make that first step. We all make excuses as to why it isn't us, but that doesn't change the fact that nobody is doing anything. Somebody, at some point, must be the one to move forward and try to make a difference. If it's just one small step, then it's better than all standing back, waiting on the other one, right?

Learning from Peter's Bold Move

Peter was in the same boat as the other disciples, headed to the same place they had been told to go, and all in the same storm as well. Funny how a storm can change the whole situation, isn't it? As long as everything is sunshine and blue skies, we are all good, but sometimes it's the stormy days that we will make our first and best move.

Peter, like the others with him, could have kept his seat. He was soaked from the waves and perhaps cold and a little worried about the outcome, yet he made up his mind when they figured out it was Jesus walking on the water. He was going to make a big move. He was about to ask a question that would change his whole direction. He said, "If it be you, Lord, then bid me to come."

I can only imagine what the others thought as Peter stood and spoke those words. Let's consider John, knowing he was one of the closest to Jesus, but he didn't ask that question. Peter did!

Finding Courage at Our Church in Bremen GA

The reply wasn't, "It's storming, and the waves are high, and there is no way you can walk on what you are supposed to swim in." Jesus simply replied, "It is I; come." Perhaps that is why we don't move today, because we are always waiting on someone else to make that first move.

At West Georgia Worship church, we believe perhaps it's time for you or me to be that one who will not look at the circumstances but simply say, "I'm going to step out in faith." It sounds crazy that anyone would truly believe that Peter walked on water, right? Well, it also sounds crazy that thousands of people throughout history have decided to take that first step and do something extraordinary.

Taking Your First Step in Our Worship Community in West Georgia

Perhaps it's you today that can truly make a change? But without the faith and confidence to step out, then we will never know, will we? Yes, Peter walked and also started to sink, but when he returned to the ship, I am sure some of the others were wishing they had made that bold move.

It might not be a big thing today, my friends, but a move is a move, and you might just be surprised at the outcome.
